Two youngsters were at a playground with another group of kids. Odd enough, the group was off in their own game while the other two sat back and merely watched. The boy seemed to be about five or so and the girl was eight. The boy and girl both had black around their eyes almost like a raccoon. He had red hair while she only had a streak of red in her bangs. He was holding onto a teddy bear and was barely swinging himself. His expression seemed troubled.
All at once, the ball the kids were tossing around was kicked and stuck on the ceiling of one of the buildings. The kids sighed and started to walk away, but turned when the ball started to float down with sand floating around it. The boy took ahold of it and gently gestured the ball forward. "H-here.." he smiled.
"I-is that..its him!" the kids started to scream and run away, leaving a confused boy to stare at the ball he had retreived.
"No..no wait..stop!" he ran forward and gestured with his hands, causing a big wave of sand to suddenly grasp onto the children. From where she was, the girl from earlier stared on with a surprised look in her eyes. The children began screaming in pain and the boy just didn't understand..
"Gaara, stop." he turned when he heard his sisters voice and felt her hand on his shoulder. Her red eyes looked down at his teal ones, and they both looked down in a moment of sadness.
Later that night, the sister walked in right when Gaara had a blade in his hand and was attempting to stab his palm. To his dismay, the sand jumped to his defense and blocked the blow. "No matter what I do, the sand gets in the way."
"What are you doing?"
"Oh, Jigsaw.. I just..never felt what pain is like..and well.." Gaara looked up at his sister and continued, "..what is it like?"
Jigsaw thought for a moment and shrugged, "Not something pleasant."
"Oh.. I've never been wounded so I wouldn't know.." Jigsaw took advantage of his moment of silence and grabbed the blade. She poked the tip of her finger, and watched the blood flow. She looked up to see the shocked look on Gaara's face.
"See..something like this..will heal in time. Pain is something that makes you feel bad and something that doesn't leave your mind as long as it is still there.." she smiled as Gaara nodded, but faltered at his words.
"I..have been feeling alot of that here.." he clenched where his heart would be. "No one seems to like me..or love me.." he looked to the picture of their mother, making Jigsaw do the same.
"I love you." she poked his forehead and smiled. "Plus, mom died to make sure you would stay alive. Think of the sand as our mother. It rushes to protect you just like she would if you were alive. Got it?" she smiled, but noticed he was still focused on the small prick on her finger. He then grabbed it, and put her finger in his mouth. From his eyes, she could tell his little mind was troubled.
"Do you mind if I borrow some of your medicine?"
Gaara rushed to the house of the children he had hurt earlier carrying some of his sisters secret stash of medicine. He calmy approached the door and smiled as it opened. He shoved the medicine forward and said happily, "I brought some medicine for your wounds. They look like they hurt."
"Go away." the door slammed. "Freak."
Gaara stared at the door with a shocked expression and finally drooped down. He walked down the steps and onto the sandy streets. A drunk man ran into him, not knowing who he was, and piped up, "Hey kid.." he stopped, however, upon seeing Gaara's face. "Wait, your--!!"
Gaara's face grew dark and in one swift motion, the man was dead on the ground. Behind him, he could hear people gathering to where the man had died and were all pointing to him. Upon getting back to his home, his father was there waiting for him and with a very angry expression, but said nothing. Jigsaw was behind him and looked at her brother with the same sadness. She took his hand and they both went to the rooftops.
As he cried, Jigsaw patted his back and stared out into the village. She looked to her little brother and murmured, "Its alright. You can't help that the sand spirit makes you do these things. Its fathers fault.." she clenched her fist and Gaara looked up.
Suddenly, a wall of sand formed around Gaara's back, blocking him from the shuriken that were thrown. Both kids looked back in shock, from which Gaara's turned to anger. He sent his sand after the figure, but the guy was too fast.
He saw the figure appear behind his sister and pinch the side of her neck, making her pass out. Gaara soared with anger and realized he couldn't send the sand after this man without hurting Jigsaw. "Please..please let her go.." he started to cry. "Shes the only one who loves me.."
The man only laughed and picked up his sister. "Cry baby." and dissapeared.
